2026 Harvard Summer Research Program Student Highlights

The Summit Institute
This summer, Summit Institute welcomed a group of motivated high school students to its 2026 Summer Research Program held at Harvard University. Over two intensive weeks, students stepped beyond the traditional classroom to experience the process of developing serious academic research—from an initial question to a completed paper and final presentation.
Students pursued independent research projects across a range of academic disciplines, working closely with dedicated research mentors to refine their questions, examine scholarly literature, develop their ideas, and strengthen their academic writing. The experience challenged students to think more independently and critically about their subjects. Rather than simply learning about an existing body of knowledge, students were encouraged to ask their own questions, evaluate evidence, and develop arguments supported by research.
Throughout the program, students also participated in academic lectures and discussions that introduced them to different aspects of research, scholarly communication, and university-level learning. Just as importantly, students became part of a community of peers who shared their intellectual curiosity. Conversations continued beyond formal sessions as students exchanged ideas, discussed their projects, and learned from one another.
The two-week experience culminated in the Summit Research Symposium, where students presented their work before mentors, peers, and guests. The symposium gave each student the opportunity to explain the significance of their research, communicate complex ideas clearly, and respond to questions about their work. It was also an opportunity to recognize how far each project—and each student—had progressed over the course of the program.
